In the past the TAC have asked people injured in car accidents, and the doctors who treat them, to jump through many hoops before being able to access funded treatment. This resulted in sometimes lengthy delays in accessing treatment essential to recovery.
Following a recent review of these requirements, the TAC has overhauled their system and done away with the need for treatment pre-approval for many essential treatments. This includes funding surgery needed within 3 month of the accident, physical therapies such as physiotherapy, chiropractic, podiatry, occupational therapy and osteopathy, provision of medication, psychological treatment and radiology. Because of this, in many instances, there is now no longer the need to call or write to TAC to obtain confirmation that they will fund treatment. Changing treatment pre-approval requirements should make it easier, quicker and smoother for people suffering from injuries to access and have necessary treatment funded; particularly early on in their recovery.
